UK ranked first for quality of end of life care.

Britain has, once again, been ranked first for quality of end-of-life care. But there is no room for complacency

In 2010 Britain came first among 40 nations, in a survey by The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), for the quality of its end-of-life care.  This year it has, once again, been ranked in first place, this time among 80 nations.  But there is no room for complacency.  The quality is there but the structure and organisation of health services can mean that some people who need expert palliative care are not always able to access it.  This is the problem which Baroness Finlay’s Access to Palliative Care Bill (Second Reading in the House of Lords on 23 October 2015) is designed to address.  The EIU report can be read here.
