Results of the inquiry led by the Commission on Assisted Dying
At the end of 2010 a ‘commission on assisted dying’ began an inquiry into the laws in England and Wales surrounding voluntary euthanasia and assisted suicide. The ‘commission’ had no official status: it was funded by advocates of legal change and its membership (including its chair, Lord Falconer of Thoroton) was drawn predominantly from persons on the public record as supporting a change in the law. The ‘commission’ published its report in January 2012. Unsurpringly, the report recommends that the law be changed to permit ‘assisted dying’ – ie physician-assisted suicide – in certain circumstances. We provide here a copy of the report.
