The Debate on Lord Joffe’s 2005 “Assisted Dying for the Terminally Ill” Bill.
In November 2005 Lord Joffe tabled a second “Assisted Dying for the Terminally Ill” bill. His first bill of this title, tabled in 2004, was the subject of a full select committee inquiry. Lord Joffe’s 2005 bill, which was a modified version of the 2004 bill, was debated at Second Reading in the House of Lords on 12 May 2006. The debate lasted for nearly 8 hours, during which over 90 Members spoke. The bill was rejected by 148 votes against 100. Here we publish the Hansard record of the debate.
