In a report published today, three distinguished Peers argue that Lord Falconer’s Private Member's 'Assisted Dying Bill' is proposing "no mere amendment of the law but a fundamental change to it" and "is asking Parliament to sign a blank cheque".

Lord Brennan QC, The Rt Hon Baroness Butler-Sloss GBE and Lord Carlile QC CBE write that there is "widespread misunderstanding and misinformation" on what the law in this area says and how it works.  Their report, published by Living and Dying Well, seeks to explain the law and to address some of the claims that have been made by the proponents of legalised assisted suicide.

The report may be accessed here.
